Dealing with people who undermine you...
Have you ever felt undermined by a colleague?
Being undermined meaning:
“Someone you work with is saying things or taking certain actions that may make others question your professionalism, knowledge, abilities or ethics”*
Here are some tips to use if you are feeling like this, there are of course many other ways to deal with this, but here are some good examples:
1.Stand your Ground
Stand your ground if someone (subtly or out rightly) speaks down to you.
2. Reply Confidently
Express your points with clarity & in an assertive manner. Have evidence/data if need be.
3. Believe in yourself and your ideas
Your input is just as valuable as the next person. Everyone has a different perspective, so don’t be afraid to share your ideas and thoughts.
If the problem persists, address it with your manager early, or someone above them if the issue is with them. Also talking with someone close to you can help too.
What are some of the techniques you know which you could share with someone who may be struggling?
